Who we are

SurfAway Cleaning Co. ("SurfAway", "we", "us") is owned and operated by Marla, based in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. We serve Lethbridge, Coaldale, Coalhurst, Taber, Picture Butte and Magrath. We are responsible for the personal information described on this page, and you can reach a real person about it using the contact details at the bottom.

Photos of your home

We take before-and-after photos of the areas we clean. These are used for our own quality records, and — for landlord, property-manager and Airbnb clients — for the photo report we provide with the job.

• We never photograph people, personal documents, mail, screens, or anything that identifies who lives there.
• We never publish a photo of your home publicly — on our website, Google profile or social media — without asking you first and getting a clear yes.
• You can tell us "no photos" at any time and we'll simply not take them.

Cookies and advertising

We use Google Ads conversion tracking so we can tell which of our ads actually bring people to us. This uses cookies set by Google, and it tells us that an enquiry came from a particular ad — it does not tell us who you are personally.

We do not run cross-site behavioural advertising profiles of our own, and we do not use your information to build one. You can control or block these cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of personalised Google advertising through Google Ad Settings. Blocking them will not stop you using this website or booking a clean.

Who else sees your information

We share personal information only where it is genuinely needed to run the business:

• Our cleaning crew — the crew assigned to your job receives your address, access instructions and the scope of work. Nothing more.
• Netlify — hosts this website and processes our form submissions.
• Google — if you contact us through a Google lead form or click one of our ads, Google processes that interaction under its own privacy policy.
• Your landlord or property manager — only if they are the client who booked and paid for the clean, and only the photo report and job details for that unit.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone, ever. We may disclose information if we are legally required to — for example by a court order.

How long we keep it

• Quote enquiries that don't become jobs: up to 12 months, then deleted.
• Customer and job records, including invoices: retained while you are a customer and afterwards as long as Canadian tax and business-record rules require (generally six years).
• Job photos: up to 24 months, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
• Job applications: up to 12 months, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

How we protect it

This website is served over HTTPS with strict security headers. Form submissions are transmitted encrypted. Access to customer records is limited to the owners and, for the details of a specific job, the crew doing that job. We keep the amount of information we hold deliberately small — the simplest protection is not collecting things we don't need.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever occurred that created a real risk of significant harm to you, we would notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.

Your rights

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you can:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy;
• Ask us to correct anything that's wrong;
• Ask us to delete your information, where we're not legally required to keep it;
• Withdraw your consent to marketing at any time;
• Ask us to stop taking or to delete photos of your home.

Email us and we'll action it — normally within a few days, and always within 30 days. There's no charge. If you're not satisfied with how we handle your request, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

Texts and emails from us

If you give us your phone number, we'll use it to confirm your quote, your booking, and to follow up about your clean. If we ever send you anything promotional, every message will include a way to opt out, and replying STOP to any text ends them immediately. We comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Children

Our services are sold to adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we'll tell you directly.
